ReefScribe is a mobile-first, offline-first aquarium journal. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles and how it is used.
Summary
- ReefScribe stores your aquarium data locally on your device (SQLite database).
- Photos you add are stored locally on your device in an app-managed folder.
- ReefScribe can create backup ZIP files that include your local database and photos, saved to a user-visible folder on your device (e.g.,
Documents/ReefScribe/Backups). - ReefScribe does not run its own servers and does not collect analytics or crash reports.
- ReefScribe uses Google Play Billing to process one-time purchases for the Pro/lifetime unlock.
- ReefScribe can use local notifications for reminders.
Information ReefScribe handles
Data you enter
ReefScribe stores information you choose to enter, such as:
- Tanks (name, volume, type, optional photo)
- Water changes (date, volume, notes)
- Parameter measurements (values and timestamps, ranges you set)
- Inhabitants (with optional photos and lifecycle status/history)
- Notes (title/body, type, pinned status)
- Reminder settings (schedule and notification preferences)
This information is stored locally on your device.
Photos
If you add photos, ReefScribe stores them locally in an app-managed folder on your device.
Backups
When you export a backup, ReefScribe creates a ZIP file containing your local database and photos and saves it to a user-visible folder on your device. You can share or move this file using your device's share options.
Data collection, sharing, and selling
ReefScribe:
- Does not collect personal data to PikeView Digital servers.
- Does not share your personal data with third parties for advertising.
- Does not sell your personal data.
Purchases
If you purchase the Pro/lifetime unlock, the transaction is processed by Google Play via Google Play Billing. PikeView Digital does not receive or store your full payment card details. Purchase processing is subject to Google's policies and terms.
Notifications
If you enable reminders, ReefScribe may request permission to send notifications. Notifications are generated locally on your device.
Security
ReefScribe stores your data on your device. You are responsible for protecting access to your device and any backup files you export or share.
Children's privacy
ReefScribe is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated over time. The effective date at the top will be updated when changes are made.
